The Caixa Forum Madrid center has inaugurated the exhibition 'The human image. Art, identities and symbolism', organized by the British Museum and the' la Caixa 'Foundation. The exhibition proposes a journey through how the human image has been represented from 8,000 years ago until the current 'selfie'.
Through 155 works from different periods and genres, from painting or sculpture, to video installations, through filming, drawings, numismatics, photography, the exhibition puts into an unprecedented dialogue between the British Museum's collections and the collection of the 'la Caixa Foundation', juxtaposing iconic works of ancient civilizations with contemporary art, allowing for cross-cultural comparisons.
In the exhibition, Ancient Art jewels are juxtaposed with more recent works from diverse cultures, as well as works signed by artists such as Henri Matisse, Goya, Luis de Madrazo, David Hockney, Albrecth Dürer, Édouard Manet, Auguste Boucher-Desnoyer, Tom Wesselmann, Antoni Tàpies, Christopher Williams, Vanessa Beercroft, Koya Abe, Frank Auerbach, Anton van Dyck, Ali Kazim, Esther Ferrer, Farhad Ahrarnia, Juan Navarro Baldenberg, Óscar Muñoz, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Craige Horsfield, Ali Cherri and David Oxtoby, among others.
